Västlänken

Västlänken, the West link, is a railway tunnel under the centre of Göteborg which will connect commuter rail services to routes that penetrate the city and give rise to new stations in the city.

Västlänken will facilitate travelling; train frequency can be increased, travel times made shorter and passengers can reach more destinations without changes.

As commuting times are reduced, the labour market will expand - for the inhabitants of both Göteborg and Western Sweden. An important prerequisite for regional growth and a sustainable urban and regional development.

Increased accessibility

Västlänken is an 8 km long double track railway, including a 6 km railway tunnel, through the centre of Göteborg.

Västlänken will increase accessibility to the city with two new underground stations at Haga and Korsvägen and a new station at Göteborg Central Station. At the same time, the capacity for rail traffic will increase with lines going through the city.

Västlänken will run from Göteborg Central station along Södra älvstranden and pass the two new stations, which will enable easier access to a number of important places and institutions.
