The theory test is available in several languages, including English. You may also apply to take the test verbally, with an extended time limit or with an interpreter or sign language interpreter. Watch how the tests are carried out at the end of the page
Theory test in other languages
The theory test for driving licence category B (passenger car) is available in 14 languages. You can choose your language when you book your test.
Audio version of the test
You can choose to listen to the test in Swedish. If you do so, you do not need to apply to use the audio version within the regular test time.
Theory test with an interpreter
If you cannot read and understand Swedish, you can take the test with an interpreter.
Doing the test with an interpreter is available for the driving licence categories AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE and tractor licence, but not for other driving licence categories or professional tests.
Extended test time
If you have reading difficulties, you can apply for extended test time when taking the test. This means that the usual test time is extended by 50 per cent. You can also listen to the test in Swedish during the extended time.
Verbal test
Someone who has severe reading difficulties (due to a learning disability such as dyslexia or another disability) may apply to take the test verbally. A verbal test means that we ask the questions verbally and the person replies based on a presented question or an image. If you are not sure whether you understood the question, you have the opportunity to ask us. The examiner will assess the answer as being correct or incorrect.
The person taking the test does not read any text during a verbal test. Verbal tests can also be taken in languages other than Swedish.
This is however not the same as tests with an interpreter, which are for those who cannot read or understand Swedish because they have a different native tongue.
Doing the test with an interpreter is available for the driving licence categories AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE and tractor licence, but not for other driving licence categories or professional tests.
