Almedal-Mölnlycke: Localisation study

Read more about the Almedal-Mölnlycke stage and meet the Project Manager Malin Odenstedt Lindhe.

What: Approximately 10 kilometres of new railway between Almedal and Mölnlycke. A part of the project Gothenburg-Borås.

Previous studies: The then National Rail Administration (Banverket) conducted a feasibility study for the Almedal-Mölnlycke stretch and the decision was taken in March of 2010. Until now, work has been suspended because there were insufficient funds to continue the planning of the assignment that the Swedish Transport Administration was tasked with by the Swedish government. The two principles that should be further investigated according to the decision of the feasibility study is to run the railway either from Almedal via Mölnlycke station, or branch off at Almedal from the West Coast to take a shorter route to Mölnlycke.

Current situation: Through a co-funding agreement with Gothenburg Region Association of Local Authorities (GR) and the City of Borås along with funds from the national plan for the 2014-2025 transport system, the planning process can be resumed. In 2014, a consultancy company was procured for the Almedal-Mölnlycke section and the contract is scheduled to be signed in December. The study work will then start at the beginning of 2015.

Assignment: To conduct a localisation study to identify a corridor (area) where the railway can be routed.
