Bollebygd-Borås: Localisation study

Read more about the Bollebygd-Borås stage and meet the Project Manager Stefan Paterson.

What: Approximately 25 kilometres of new railway between Bollebygd and Borås. A part of the project Gothenburg-Borås.

Previous studies: The then National Rail Administration (Banverket) conducted a feasibility study for Bollebygd-Borås and Linköping-Borås. Decisions in the feasibility study were taken in December 2007 and February 2010. The work has since been suspended because there were insufficient funds to continue the planning of the assignment that the Swedish Transport Administration was tasked with by the Swedish government.

Current situation: Through a co-funding agreement with Gothenburg Region Association of Local Authorities (GR) and the City of Borås along with funds from the national plan for the transport system from 2014 to 2025, the planning process can be resumed. The procurement of a consultant for the Bollebygd-Borås study is in progress. The investigative work will then begin in the autumn of 2014.

Assignment: To conduct a localisation study to identify a corridor (area) where the railway can be routed. The corridor alternatives to be investigated further, all run south of the motorway, which means that Sandared will not be affected. The passage past Viared needs to be investigated promptly, and we expect a decision on that section by 2015.
