Chronotopia - Art competition

In 2026, the first trains will roll into the tunnels of the West Link. The plan is for the art to comprise part of the overall design instead of being perceived as an addition to an existing building. The whole of the West Link will have a coherent artistic aesthetic that will be based on the city of Gothenburg as a place and an epoch.

In order to elicit proposals for the artistic design, the Swedish Transport Administration, in cooperation with the Public Art Agency Sweden, have announced an international competition. The competition has been divided into two rounds, and five proposals for the first round - for Olskroken and the West Link Central Station - have been presented at the Museum of Gothenburg.

Here you can see pictures from the exhibition and read about the artists' thoughts on the proposals.

The first round began on 21 March 2016 and the jury's decision will be announced in January 2017. During 2017, a corresponding competition will be arranged for Haga Station and Korsvägen. The artists have the chance to influence the entire design of the environments together with the architects, something which is unusual in large-scale urban transformation projects.
