We are serious about low emissions!

On behalf of the Swedish Transport Administration, the City of Göteborg’s Environment Department has investigated the effects that the construction of the West Link and the Olskroken grade-separated junction will have on the city’s air quality.

To determine what effect the work will have on Göteborg's air quality, calculations have been made for four different scenarios, of which one is for the current situation, known as the null alternative. In the remaining three scenarios, the air quality calculations are based on different emission requirements that apply to the machinery and transport vehicles that will be used.

The results of the calculations show that we make the best improvements and minimise the project's environmental impact by having stringent emission restrictions. Heavy vehicles such as lorries must meet the requirements of Euro VI, while at least 40 % of machinery must be tier IV and the rest must be at least tier IIIB. Euro VI and the other tiers are examples of environmental classifications used to control vehicle emissions. The environmental classes specify the maximum emission levels for a number of different pollutants.
