The four tracks pass 6 meters beneath ground level through Åkarp. On a 400 meters long part of the stretch the tracks will be covered.
The covering will be like a railway tunnel that provides the possibility of creating a park area above with paths for pedestrians and cyclists. On the cover, Lervägen can also be extended to connect up with Stationsvägen on the eastern side of the tracks.
South of the tunnel, the new station will be built alongside the old station house, pass Åkarpsdammen and up to Alnarpsvägen. The platforms are located 6 meter under ground level and on the edge of the stationwalls 2 meter-high noise barriers will be built.
The railway crossing on Alnarpsvägen will be removed and the level of the road raised to form a bridge over the tracks. Gränsvägen in the north will be extended and continues on a bridge over the lowered tracks. When all the works have been completed, Åkarp will have three crossings: Alnarpsvägen, the tunnel roof and Gränsvägen.
Storm water from the western side of Åkarp will be disposed of and conveyed past sensitive parts of Åkarp. Equalisation reservoirs provide the landscape with new plus values.
