The difference lies primarily in the different working practices; the design models are an integrated part of the project's working practices. They are monitored and used to support decision-making in meetings, and all engineering areas are involved in this work.
The models allow for new opportunities when it comes to production planning and risk management, as most engineering areas have three-dimensional representations and can be combined selectively.
Also new for the Stockholm Bypass Project is the fact that data for the as-built documentation must be delivered as 3D models.
The work with BIM within the project elevates the exchange format models to a legal level above that of conventional drawings, and they will therefore take precedence ahead of drawings in contracts.
