Getting a driving licence

Book your test in time, take plenty of time and study hard. This increases your chances of passing at the first attempt and will save you time and money.

The road to your driving licence

Working towards your driving licence for cars (category B) can be divided into different steps. More information about what the different steps involve can be found here.

You need a valid learner’s permit:

  • to be allowed to learn to drive, and
  • to book a test with us.

This applies the first time you take your driving test, but also if you already have a driving licence and need to add a new licence category. Applications for a learner’s permit are made to the Swedish Transport Agency.

You need to complete the same training, but not necessarily at the same time. Introductory training for learning to drive – Swedish Transport Agency

When you have completed your introductory training and your instructor has received an approved permit, you can start learning to drive. You now have the opportunity to drive with your private instructor and/or at a driving school. By all means alternate your practice with studying the theory too! This is the best way to absorb all the information.

It may be time to book your risk course as you approach the end of your training. Your risk course will remain valid until the date on which you pass your driving test, or for a maximum of 5 years.

If you attend a driving school, your school will enrol you in the risk course. You will need to find an authorised trainer yourself if you are learning to drive privately with an instructor.

When you feel that you have a good grasp of the theory, and when you can drive independently under instruction for about 45 minutes, you are ready to book an appointment to take your tests. Book your tests at the same time, but do the tests a few weeks apart. Make sure you book well in advance!

You can book your tests here.

You will complete the risk course at the end of your training. The course consists of two parts:

  1. Part 1 concerns alcohol and drugs, fatigue when driving and other high risk behaviour.

  2. Part 2 involves the skid pan and concerns matters such as speed, safety and driving in different road and weather conditions.

Now it is time to do your theory test. You must pass this before you can take the driving test. Bring along valid ID when you come to our centre to do your theory test!

You will walk together to the car. If you feel nervous and stressed, by all means say so. You can then have a bit of a chat before your test. The examiner will tell you where to head for during your driving test. You will drive in both urban and rural traffic. The driving test will continue for at least 25 minutes.

Things to bear in mind before your test

  • Your learner’s permit must be valid. If any conditions are defined, you must fulfil these during the test.
  • Make sure you have completed the mandatory training courses required before turning up for your test.
  • Bring valid ID with you. You can ask someone else (such as a parent) to certify your identity if you do not have valid ID. If you do not have valid ID

  • If you are going to take a test for a driving licence category, you have to certify that you do not hold a driving licence issued by another EEA country.

Tips for getting a driving licence

  • Book your tests well in advance, this will give you more chance of finding the test times you want.

  • Book your theory test and driving test at the same time, but take them a few weeks apart. This will give you time to take another theory test before the driving test, if you need to.

  • It is important for you and your instructor to plan so that you are ready to take the tests on the dates for which they are booked. By all means carry out training checks as you work through your course!

  • Test times may come up at short notice as cancellations often occur.

  • Take plenty of time and practise properly. This increases your chances of passing at the first attempt and will save you time and money.

We will not tolerate cheating

Before starting the theory test, you must promise that you will take it without using any unauthorised tools or attempting to cheat in any other way.

This is what will happen if you cheat:

  • You will be reported to the police for making a false statement.
  • You will be banned from taking your test for one or two years. Your test will be discontinued and declared null and void. If you have another test booked, that test will be cancelled. You will not be able to book more tests yourself.

Mobile phones must be completely switched off in the test hall!
