Tractors

To drive a tractor or a class II motor vehicle, you need a driving licence (regardless of category) or a special tractor licence. To be awarded a tractor licence, you have to pass a theory test.

The theory test

Remember: if you are under 18 when you make your booking, you have to have paid for the test at least 25 hours before the test begins.

The test consists of 70 questions in total, but you can score a maximum of 65 points. This is because 5 of the questions are sample questions and do not count towards the test score. To pass the test, you must answer 52 questions correctly. The test takes 50 minutes. You can choose to listen to the questions in the test if you wish.

The theory test includes questions on matters such as:

  • vehicle knowledge and manoeuvring
  • environment
  • road safety
  • road traffic rules
  • personal circumstances

After the test

Whether you have passed or failed is shown immediately on screen after the test. The results will be sent to your email address. You can also view the results by logging in to the booking service. The results will show you how many correct answers you have in the various subject areas.

A tractor licence allows you to drive

You are allowed to drive immediately after passing the test if you have valid ID with you when you drive. Your tractor licence will be sent to your home address. A tractor licence allows you to drive:

  • Tractor a (tractors designed for a maximum speed of 40 km/h).
  • II motorised equipment on roads (motorised equipment designed for a maximum speed of 30 km/h).
  • Class II moped.
